PRESBYTERIAN SENIORCARE NETWORK

4 T hanks to the generous support of a group of donors, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network bought two NURSING ANNE SIMULATOR GERIATRIC MANNEQUINS . These high-tech mannequins mimic the physical attributes of older adults. Often, for geriatric patients, a subtle change in condition means that a significant problem is coming. With this simulator training, our clinical team members will be more attuned to these early signs of trouble and be able to quickly intervene, act and help our residents avoid the anxiety, expense and health risks of hospitalization. The realism of the mannequin’s simulations can provide a learner with the valuable experience of handling acute life-threatening events within the safe environment of a classroom. “The functionality and interactivity of the simulator provides an engaging learning experience for our clinical staff that far exceeds classroom education alone,” said Ginny Burke, Clinical Quality and Education Director for Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Burke is coordinating the simulator training program across the Network. The Nursing Anne Simulator Geriatric mannequins will be used to train team members at our Erie, Shenango, Oakmont, and Washington campuses. Team members use the simulators to train in blood pressure and pulse-taking skills, circulation checks, colostomy assessment and care, IV skills, lung sound assessment and much more. In years past, the Network relied on borrowing a regular mannequin with limited availability and opportunities to train. Thank you UPMC Hamot, Erie Community Foundation, George H. Campbell, Lillian S. Campbell, and Mary S. Campbell Foundation and A. J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust for funding this state-of-the-art device.
