PRESBYTERIAN SENIORCARE NETWORK

Presbyterian SeniorCare Network | 2022 COMMUNITY REPORT 3 REIMAGINING OUR CAREER OPPORTUNITIES In 2022, the Network added a new benefit for our team members who are looking to grow professionally: The LPN Tuition Forgiveness program. The Team Member/Dependent Tuition Forgiveness benefit makes it easier to earn a licensed practical nurse (LPN) license. It forgives all tuition and mandatory fees at partner schools, minus any scholarships or grants. Stacey Hawthorne, Jessica Hurley and Janelle McKinney (all team members at Woodside Place of Oakmont) were the first to apply for and receive the new benefit. Stacey and Janelle are studying at Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center’s 12-month LPN program at the Monroeville campus. Jessica is studying at the Lenape Practical Nursing Program. STACEY HAWTHORNE has 25 years of experience taking care of residents as a certified nurse aide, personal care assistant and as a med tech. She hopes to one day become a registered nurse. “During the past 25 years, I have gained so much unconditional love while also gaining a great deal of knowledge through every experience. Being a nurse requires compassion, determination, an open heart and an open mind.” JESSICA HURLEY has served as a lead personal care assistant at Woodside Place of Oakmont and a Network team member for seven years. Jessica was influenced by her mother, who modeled dedication and commitment to older adults while working as a Certified Home Health Aide. “Becoming a nurse would allow me to provide additional support to the residents for their health and well-being. Nursing involves taking care of the ‘whole person’ physically, mentally and emotionally; along with the important people in their lives.” JANELLE McKINNEY has served as a personal care assistant at Woodside Place of Oakmont the past three years. She is balancing a career, family, friends and school to pursue this opportunity. Her career goal is to work as an LPN at Woodside Place, which would combine her love and knowledge of dementia care with her LPN licensure. “Returning to college as an adult makes me appreciate this opportunity more, knowing that this is truly what career path I was meant to take. Taking this drastic life change at my age is not only terrifying, it’s exhilarating at the same time.” Her motto? “Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.” Our New LPN Tuition Forgiveness Benefit S t a c e y H a w t h o r n e J e s s i c a H u r l e y J a n e l l e M c K i n n e y “Being a nurse requires compassion, determination, an open heart and an open mind.” –STACEY HAWTHORNE, WOODSIDE PLACE OF OAKMONT THREE TEAM MEMBERS FURTHER THEIR CLINICAL CAREERS
